Chris Joyce, PE and Sport and Recreation teacher at St Mary MacKillop College, was the student last month when he participated in a Teacher into Industry placement at Carlton Football Club.
Chris spent time with Mathew Pell, Strength and Conditioning Coach for the AFL club to find out more about the industry he is recommending to his students.
“It really gave me an opportunity to see for myself what a career in this industry is like," Chris said.
“Matt was fantastic, he spent a lot of time with me to give me a real insight in to the latest technology, equipment and approach to fitness."
The program is facilitated by the Murray Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network (MMLLEN) and provides teachers with firsthand experience that they can pass on to their students to promote their career aspirations.
Executive Officer at MMLLEN Deb Quin says the program is aimed at strengthening the links between industry and educational professionals.
“Most industries whether local or further afield experience change, evolve and embrace new technology. The program helps our local teachers to get out of the classroom and immerse themselves in an industry of their choice and update their knowledge. Whether it is for a day, a couple of hours or a weekend, it is totally flexible.”
