Seventeen lucky students recently completed the Set Your Heart on a Career in Accounting work experience program. The program has been running since 2009 and has so far attracted more than 100 participants.
The students from Swan Hill College, St Mary MacKillop College, Tyrrell College and Tooleybuc Central School worked alongside mentors in the financial services and local government sectors to learn about the various career opportunities an accounting or commerce qualification can offer.
A busy week of activities were arranged for the students including participating in a two-hour workshop delivered by Jacky Storer from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Students also took part in a tour of the CBD visiting local businesses with large finance departments and a celebratory lunch on Friday where they were joined by host employers and mentors and representatives from schools.
Chloe Burrell, a program participant in 2010 recently graduated from Latrobe University with a Bachelor of Accounting. Chloe is now employed full time by PDF Accounting in Swan Hill and spoke to the students about her inspiring journey so far.
Also joining students at the lunch were Tori Gorringe (Logan & Hall) and Ryan Callaghan (Pooles), both are past program participants currently completing their accounting degrees.
The program continues to further develop each year offering students a wonderful opportunity to complete a unique work experience.
