We interviewed students on the day to gain an understanding of what they enjoyed most about the Careers Expo and how the Career Expo has helped them with their career pathway.
An article about the Murray Mallee Hands-On Trades Career Expo featured in the local newspaper after the event that went into detail about some highlights from the day and heard from one of our exhibitors from Tradeswomen Australia, Sarah Curley, who spoke about women in trades and inspiring female students to consider the trade industry as a career pathway.

“I just want to help girls at this age to start thinking about what they’re interested in and where their strengths are. It’s to just sort of draw them back and go, ‘Hang on, you’re really good at the hands-on stuff, how about going into this kind of profession?’ and just getting them to try and see if trades are for them.”
Another article about the Murray Mallee Hands-On Trades Career Expo featured in the local newspaper after the event which featured our special guest on the day, MasterChef Tim Bone from Tim’s Toasties.
“I was always passionate about what young people want to do with their careers. I think that there can be a lot of pressure on our youth to work out what they want to be for the rest of their lives, but it’s not always like that. I’m 39 and I didn’t think I’d be making toasties for a living, but you never know what opportunities will come into your life.”

Tim was a massive hit at the expo and had the opportunity to chat to hundreds of secondary and primary school students from around the region that are interested in going into the hospitality industry.
We would like to once again thank everyone for coming along to find out about all things Trades in our region and a huge thank you to exhibitors for providing a greater understanding of career pathway opportunities to our regional youth and community!
