The Set Your Heart on a Career in Accounting Work Experience Program is held each year in May.
The program, developed in partnership with the Murray Mallee LLEN and Swan Hill Incorporated was in its ninth year in 2017 and offers students from Swan Hill and surrounding district secondary schools the opportunity to participate in a one-week work experience program that focuses on careers in the accounting and finance sectors.
Partners and graduates from accounting firms visit secondary schools in March/April and present to hundreds of students encouraging them to consider a career in accounting or finance.
As part of the presentation, students are invited to apply for a place in the week-long program that will allow them to work alongside qualified professionals and participate in activities such as workshops and a walking tour of the CBD visiting various businesses with accounting and finance departments.
"Set Your Heart on a Career in Accounting work experience week provides a ‘hands on’ experience to students interested in a career within the Accounting and Finance sector. For employers, the program provides an opportunity to form relationships with the students, hopefully leading them to remain or return to the local area after completing further education or training." Janine Daniels, Partner PDF Accounting.
Chloe Burrell participated in the program in 2010 as a Year 11 student:
"I did my placement with Dodgshun Medlin. I really liked the program and I was able to do and experience a broad range of activities like administration, coding and financial planning. It was a great week and I came away with a really good feel for what the industry could offer in a career."
